KORTA KATARINA ZINFANDEL 2018

Taste rich, full-bodied, firm in structure, with an abundance of cherry sweetness at the finish and some dark chocolate. After opening, the wine gets wonderful forest notes of sour black-bitter oak, crumpled blueberry bush leaves and forest soil.
The integration of oak in this wine is interesting, and the signature of the chief oenologist Nika Silić Maroević is perhaps most evident in that. Namely, the management of wooden oak barrels in Korta Katarina is a real small science and art in itself. Scents reminiscent of sweet spices and coming from the oak, are more noticeable only after opening in a glass, so watching the development of wine is a real pleasure.
It is far more complex than its most famous brother from America, at least than what is the most common profile of this wine in America, so it returns from there with valuable prizes: a bronze medal won at USA Wine Ratings 2020 and a silver medal won at Sommelier’s Choice Awards 2020.
